CEIR Database: Track Your Stolen or Lost Mobile Phone Very Soon

India is second most populous market for Mobile Phones in the world. This large pool of Mobile devices make it very difficult to track these devices. Citizen faces the problems of mobile theft and lost of mobile in day to day life. To tackle with such problems Department of Telecom, Government of India is building a database of mobile device IMEI number called CEIR Database (Central Equipment Identity Register Database) in upcoming weeks. After building of this Database citizens are able to report their lost or stolen mobile devices, government able to track mobile phones and devices.

In the CEIR Database, Mobiles will categorized in to three groups. These are:

  • White Listed Devices: These would be legally operating devices, which will in full operation.
  • Black Listed Devices: These would be reported by citizens as lost or stolen, which will not be in operation and blocked.
  • Grey Listed Devices: These would be not complying with standards. But, which will be permitted to operate under supervision.

CEIR Database will have access to GSM Association’s Golbal IMEI database so that legally unlocked devices can be identified and devices blocked/unblocked to operate Nationally and Internationally.

CEIR Database will be in operation soon. Citizens will able to recover their financial loss and free from personal identity theft arising from lost and stolen mobile devices.
