DigiLocker is a ”Digital India” initiative by Government. It is free, Secure and Flexible document storage system intended for Indians. As like a Bank Locker it stores documents in digital format. It is build by National Informatics Center (NIC). Digilocker is owned by Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India. It is Document cloud system having the facility to esign the document.
The DigiLocker is accessible in browser and has mobile application also. It has a 256 bit secure website having address https://digilocker.gov.in and accessible securely. Its Mobile application currently available on Android and I Phone platforms and easy to use.
DigiLocker has to sign up firstly with your mobile. You have to sync your Aadhar number (It is optional step) to get extra facilities other than basic facilities. Basic facilities are available with sign up only. Then You can upload documents or get the documents from various issuer like RTO, MSBSHSE, CBSE, AAPLE SARKAR, UIDAI, ITD, UNIVERSITIES…etc. Then you can ESign the documents if you want and share with requester. The requester of document can access the link provided to him/her and verify the document. This is actual flow in this process.
